Suncamper Motorhomes launch at 2024 NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow
Well-known motorhome manufacturer Suncamper Motorhomes announced upgrades to almost all of its range at a special launch at the recent Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow in Sydney. Suncamper displayed a good selection of motorhomes, including the 4X4 Conqueror.
Marketing Coordinator Connor Jones did a great job organising everything, while Managing Director Cameron Harrison did the unveiling honours. The old hands were also pleased to catch up with Keith Harrison, former owner of Suncamper Motorhomes and now enjoying a leisurely retirement.
ALL HAIL THE CONQUEROR
While guests at the launch enjoyed a complimentary breakfast, they could not only look at the Suncamper range but be teased about something hidden under an extensive cover. It hid an upgraded Conqueror 2.0 motorhome.
Based on a Toyota Hilux (or a Ford Ranger if preferred), the new Conqueror 2.0 certainly looks the part and Suncamper certainly had something special with a very impressive upgrade list. It’s almost a new design, but there’s nothing wrong with improving an existing successful model. According to MD Harrison: “We listened carefully to our current owners and incorporated many of their suggestions into the latest Conqueror.”
The new Conqueror 2.0, part of Suncamper’s Sherwood range, has an improved departure angle, larger windows, a dedicated electrical compartment, a raised roof height that improves the headroom above the Luton bed, and a 100mm increased floor level that improves the underfloor storage. While 100mm might not sound like much, it makes a fantastic difference in storage capacity. As a result, there are more storage hatches both inside and out. A longer awning might sound small, but it greatly improves the outside living area.
Mostly out of sight is the roofline. It’s been redesigned to allow for more solar panel capacity and still has space for an air-conditioner installed. The observant might also note that the roof bars have been replaced by something more subtle but still effective.
Other upgrades include a larger 130L fridge, a 400Ah Lithium battery as standard, 700W of solar panel capacity, a diesel hot water system, a 3000W inverter, a diesel-fired space heater and a freshwater capacity that's been increased to 190L. Because of the improved battery capacity, an induction hob is now standard, and there are no LPG appliances inside the motorhome.
Cabinetry changes include leg rests for the seating area, an improved table configuration, better internal storage and a bathroom with a new European-style fold-down wash basin.
It's an understatement to say that the Conqueror 2.0 adds a whole new dimension to the world of 4x4 motorhomes.
OTHER SHERWOODS
If the Conqueror 2.0 is a bit out of your budget, Suncamper has two other options in the Sherwood range. The Sherwood 4X4 E-2 is also based on either a Toyota Hilux or a Ford Ranger. It has a similar layout with a Luton bed, rear dining area, nearside kitchen and offside bathroom. However, it has a much lower spec level, meaning it’s more affordable but still with offroad capability. Of note is that the E-2 has also been upgraded, like the Conqueror, including new-look colours and an improved lighting system. It also includes a GVM upgrade, something vital on a cab chassis ute-based motorhome like this to give a good payload capacity.
For those who don't desire 4x4 capability but like the motorhome style and layout, the 5.8m Sherwood R-2 offers great potential for those who like a smaller motorhome. The R-2 is one of the original Sherwood designs, but it has evolved into the current model and developed into the 4X4 models. It might be a base model, but the most recent upgrade has given the R-2 quite a classy look inside.
LARGER RIGS
Suncamper doesn’t only make cab chassis ute-size motorhomes; it has several larger units on its design books, too. The Saxby V-2 with Iveco Daily or Mercedes Sprinter underpinnings has an external length of 6.8m. It’s a motorhome with all the comforts, including a large rear club lounge and a drop-down bed above. In addition, there’s a full-sized bathroom with a separate cubicle. Of note is the L-shaped kitchen. It’s impressive just how much benchtop space can be improved by changing the kitchen bench shape. A great feature is the large external storage area at the rear. It’s sized for all camping and leisure needs.
Aptly named, the Sovereign Q2 is the flagship of the Suncamper fleet. With a body length of 7.8m, it has a very generous interior space. Like the rest of the Suncamper range, the Sovereign Q2 has all-ply timber cabinetry. Features include a rear island bed, a split bathroom and a comfortable front lounge/dining area. There is undoubtedly room to spread out and the range of cupboards and overhead lockers offers a very generous amount of interior storage. Just like the Saxby, it has a substantive external rear storage area that will accept items like golf clubs or a couple of folding bikes.
GOOD RANGE
Suncamper Motorhomes certainly offers a good range. A base model, the Sherwood R-2, has all the essentials but will stay within the budget and provides the great benefit of being an easy manoeuvring motorhome. Offroad enthusiasts will take advantage of the Sherwood E-2 or the upmarket Conqueror 2.0. Then for those folk for whom offroad travel is too much hard work, the Saxby V-2 has much to offer. Finally, if luxury matters, hitting the road in the Sovereign Q2 won’t be a problem at all. If that’s not enough, Suncamper also offers a custom-building service as well — something for everyone.
