Winnebago Unveils New All-Electric RV Prototype

New all-electric zero-emission RV revealed

At the Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa (Florida US) earlier this year Winnebago

revealed its exciting new all-electric zero-emission RV – also known as the eRV2. With the world moving towards greener forms of transport, the eRV2 is a vehicle of its time. Being the first of its kind, this motorhome is set to revolutionise not only the US’s motorhome industry but Australia’s too.

The eRV2 is a zero-emission motorhome that is powered entirely by electricity, making it an environmentally friendly and sustainable option for those conscious about climate change but still wanting to hit the road. It comes with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack from Lithionics Battery that can provide enough power to drive up to 300km on a single charge. This is ideal for travelling big chunks of Australia on the road and a potential game changer for those worried about the massive impact travelling such distances would have if in a combustible vehicle.

“Our primary goal in building the eRV2 was to help people comfortably explore the world around them with less environmental impact,” said Huw Bower, president of the Winnebago brand. “The user experience was at the heart of this prototype’s development, through the early days of market research and even now as it goes through field testing. The eRV2 embodies our pioneering legacy, representing not only an achievement in design, innovation and sustainability but also our commitment to continuously evolve with the changing needs of consumers and the world we share.”

Not only is the eRV2 solely powered by electricity, including the powertrain and housing systems, but a portion of that electricity is provided from the sun via 900W solar capacity. It’s built on a Ford E-Transit™ chassis, which ensures both a powerful torque and smooth handling. The current generation’s published range of this chassis is 173km, but Winnebago is actively pursuing range extension opportunities to incorporate into a future commercial version.

The eRV2 is sustainably designed to further reduce the impact on the environment.

The interior is primarily made from recycled materials, including the flooring, removable floor mats, Winsleep mattress system and trimming around the window frames. Cab seat coverings are made with renewable plant-based materials and the acrylic countertops are made from biodegradable materials.

The interior of the motorhome is inspired by modern Japanese and Scandinavian designs that create a clean, tranquil and multi-functional environment. This includes a five-in-one sleep/lounge and two adaptable workspaces with built-in charge points and a high-speed wi-fi router for optimal data streaming.

Users of the eRV2 can easily monitor and control the vehicle’s electrical and energy management systems using a display inside the vehicle or by an intuitive app, all thanks to the proprietary Winnebago Connect system.

All the innovative features of the eRV2 make for silent and environmentally responsible travel, providing travellers with peace of mind and comfort. The eRV2 has generated a lot of buzz in the Australian motorhome industry, with many people eagerly anticipating its release for the Aussie market. With its impressive features and eco-friendly design, it’s sure to be a hit across the country.
