ADR approval for New Age Caravans

New Age Caravans and Walkinshaw Group has achieved Vehicle Type Approval on the entire 2022 New Age Caravans range, in accordance with the upcoming implementation of the Road Vehicle Standards Act

in 2023 – a significant achievement in the industry.

The Australian Design Rules (ADRs), which the Vehicle Type Approvals are associated, are national design rules that mandate minimum safety standards, dimensional requirements, structural requirements as well as performance and emission targets for all vehicles that are registered for travel on Australian roads. The RVSA ensures that the process of building a New Age Caravan is documented and structured to ensure the repeatability during the manufacturing process from start to finish.

While Vehicle Type Approval is not yet compulsory for caravans to be sold in Australia, it was considered essential for New Age Caravans, ensuring a higher standard of safety and quality in the entire range, putting it above its competitors.

Chris Polites said he is delighted that the company’s diligence and commitment has been recognised by the Australian Government.

“To have Vehicle Type Approvals for our entire New Age Caravan range in production right now is something we are all extremely proud of. It speaks to the quality and safety of the process we undertake, from design to manufacturing, and the commitment from all our staff,” said Mr Polites.

“While ADRs are not yet formally mandated by the road vehicle regulators in the caravan industry, it’s something we believe is essential, and that’s why we’ve gone above and beyond what is required. We want all New Age owners to know that their caravan has met the national standards by the governing body, for wherever their journey takes them.

Walkinshaw Group has more than 30 years’ experience in working to these standards and procedures though its automotive arm of the business.

Since its opening in 2010, the New Age Caravans factory in Epping has manufactured more than 70 different models, has more than 300 staff employed locally, and currently produces more than 2000 caravans per year, including flagship models the Manta Ray, Road Owl and Big Red.

New Age Caravans started life back in 2004 as New Age Frames and Designs, providing a number of high-profile caravan manufacturers with a higher standard of framing and CNC fabricated componentry. After rapid growth, New Age Caravans was born in 2008, shifting from supplying the industry to building our own. The Walkinshaw Group purchased New Age Caravans in 2016, adding another layer of facilities, technology and expertise that are unmatched in the caravan industry.
