DIY: Cleaning Caravan Skylight

Today we are taking a look at a step by step cleaning process for your van's skylight/hatch.

The purpose of the skylight/hatch is to let in light and allow ventilation when the hatch is open. Ventilation can be for letting out hot air and cooking aromas. It could also assist in venting for gas appliances. The steps below though, are really just about keeping the hatch clean.

1. Locate the hatch cowl which incorporates a sliding insect screen and shade

2. Gently prise the cowl off the hatch

3. Remove the cowl

4. Check the insect screen to see if it is dirty or clogged

5. Clean the insect screen by gently wiping it or gently blowing it out with compressed air

6. Check if the back of the shade needs cleaning

7. Give the hatch body a wipe down

8. Reinstall the cowl
