Australian-made Winjana RVs

We had a chat with Winjana RV to discuss their origins as well as their best pieces of advice for those dipping their toes into caravanning.

How did Winjana RV get its start?

Winjana RV have specialised in 5th wheelers since the company commenced in 2000. The company was founded by Ian Grevis-James and Andrew Brennen, with Andrew continuing now as the General Manager and Director to this day. The focus has always been to provide very high-quality vans, built locally in Toowoomba specifically for Australian roads and conditions, with safety as the highest priority feature. All vans designed are named after significant Australian National Parks.

What would you say is WInjana RV’s point of difference in the industry that makes it stand out from other manufacturers?

Winjana RVs are known for their small-sized quality 5th wheelers as well as being the only Australian-made manufacturer of 5th wheelers currently available on the market in Australia. We are very proud of our excellent reputation with customers, personal service, and our core attention and priority on safety.

Is there anything you would attribute the success of Winjana RV in the Australian market to?

Our success lies in providing excellent customer service with a personal approach; a 'can do' attitude; a very high-quality product; and our focus on safety as a priority. Our many and very positive customer testimonials are testament to the service we provide – and we've had some customers come back to buy/upgrade to a new van three or four times now over the years.

Which Winjana RV is your best-selling?

That would have to be the 760 Cattai which is a hybrid.

You mentioned you’re an Australian-made manufacturer, so where are Winjana RV’s made and are there specific components you prefer to use in the build?

Winjana RV is based in Toowoomba, Queensland, and all vans are built on-site at the factory. We also test our products both on-site and on-road for quality control.

As for components used in the build, we prefer Bushman Refrigerators, Timbren Silent Ride Suspension, and components that are Australian-made, if possible as our customers prefer custom builds with Australian brands. As for tools, our staff ‘must-have’ is a Robinson Screws square drive which is used in all our builds.

Do you have any suggestions for destinations for buyers to travel once they have their new rig?

All Winjana RV vans are named after Australia's outstanding National Parks, and our vans are all 'rough road ready', so our suggestions are three of our favourite areas of natural beauty: Kalbarri National Park in Western Australia, Ormiston Gorge (Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park) in the Northern Territory, and the Strzelecki National Park and desert in South Australia.

Do you have any tips for customers so that they can enjoy Winjana RV’s to the fullest? Along those lines, what’s the one piece of advice you would give first-time and experienced buyers alike?

We only have one tip and that’s to use it — don’t leave it in the backyard just to look at. As for a piece of advice, before purchasing any van, contact the dealer as service and maintenance is paramount.

What models does Winjana offer aspiring travellers or those who want to upgrade?

Winjana RV has four models available currently, however, all our vans can be custom designed to suit customer needs. The four current base models are (from smallest to largest): Strzelecki 550, Ormiston 630, Kalbarri 690 and Cattai 760.

How can interested customers get their hands on a Winjana RV?

Winjana RV deals directly with the customer; we provide a very bespoke and customer-focused experience. We do not have any dealerships so customers can find us at winjana5thwheelers.com.au.
